About Our Drinks Mixer Partner

Sepoy&Co is an award winning premium drinks mixer brand based in New Delhi originally aimed at the quality focused Indian consumers.

The brand name is inspired by the legacy of the Sepoy warriors that have deep roots in Indian culture and are an integral part of the story of Gin & Tonic itself but more on that later.

Sepoy&Co recognised that tonic water had evolved from an afterthought to an essential part of a mixed drink.  They also understood that consumers were increasingly knowledgeable about premium spirits and looking for bespoke mixers with greater flavour profiles and set about meeting this head on.

“Our story started halfway between New Delhi and London, sipping G & T’s in the air. That trip turned into an extensive tasting of Gin and Tonics (mostly Tonics) and a question — ‘Why?’ Why are there no premium natural mixers available in India to mix with all the great Gin’s we buy?” says Angad Soni. Which is why he went on to create a world class tonic or “premium adult soft beverage” as he prefers to call it, which is both 100 percent natural and can cater to the unique tastes of the Indian palate. Thus with plenty of diligence, patience and over a years hard work resulted in Sepoy & Co. Angad worked with industry experts and distillers across India and England, to finally be satisfied with a perfectly balanced tonic water.

Sepoy & Co. uses a unique blend of essential oils and spices with quinine and just the right amount of carbonation, so that the products can make an accompaniment to a spirit or even be enjoyed just as they are — a stand-alone soft beverage. It is expertly brewed in India, following the highest quality manufacturing and bottling practices.

Here’s good news for everyone who has been keeping off tonic due to its high number of calories, Sepoy & Co’s tonics are crafted precisely to be naturally light, and contain less than 5 grams of sugar, without compromising on the delicate balance of flavours. So you can go back to drinking your G&T’s without a worry of the affect it may have on your hips. The products are free from artificial sweeteners, flavours, preservatives and colours.

The structural bottle design transmits kinship to Indian history and stands out as a contemporary brand that would naturally belong in the context of a bar. The iconic bottle design encompasses, the elephant in the brand mark which is a central figure in Indian religion and mythology, emblematic of good fortune in new endeavours, protection and strength. The vertical pattern of the bottle design borrows inspiration from spirits and soda water bottles from the 19th-Century and is also a nod to the brotherhood of the Sepoys and their mantra “stronger together”.

History

History Of Indian Tonic Water

The naming is inspired by the legacy of the Sepoy warriors that have deep roots in Indian culture and are an integral part of the story of Gin & Tonic itself.

A sepoy was originally the designation given to an Indian infantryman armed with a musket in the armies of the Mughal empire. In the 18th century the French East India Company and its other European counterparts employed locally recruited soldiers within India, mainly consisting of infantry designated as “sepoys”. The largest of these Indian forces, trained along European lines, was that belonging to the British East India Company.

The British, once they learnt about quinine, introduced it in India mainly for the Indian soldiers fighting for the British East India Company. After the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857, the British Crown took over the governance of India from the British East India Company and strengthened its presence on the subcontinent. By the late 1850s, the growing number of troops and their families in India increased the demand for quinine. Living in the colony required the ability to fight the deadly disease of Malaria, many British expatriates in India consumed rations of quinine in the form of “Indian tonic water.”
